Photo 'Words' Activity

For this activity, we were set a task to choose six words from a list and take pictures, which would represent the following word. The six words we chose were city, mysterious, calm, spiky, quick and confusion. The three I am going to talk about are city, quick and mysterious.

City

In this picture, the representation shown is the city. The picture represents the central area of London and shows that it is a busy area with traffic, buses, cars and people. Buildings are shown such as the Gerkin and other big tall buildings to represent working offices in the city of London. A long shot has been used to take this still and to capture not just a building but also the surroundings such as the roads, trees and pavements. The picture also shows how busy the city can become. This can lead to danger and the awareness of someone’s safety. There are various types of transport shown in the picture like cars, buses, motorbikes and bicycles other than just walking. This shows London has a diverse way of transport for the public to use.

Quick

The picture above represents the representation of quick. The picture contains various people doing different actions one of which is of a man running and involves cans and vans shown driving fast. The representation of quick can be seen in the man running in the city that links back to the previous image. The image is a medium shot of the normal city day during near midday. The cars and other transport on the road can also represent the representation of quick as the transport are driving at a fast speed and are in moving action. A man can also be seen crossing the road not on the crossing but through the middle of the road which can also add to the representation of quick as he may be going quick to get to somewhere.

Mysterious

Mysterious is represented in this picture above. The picture contains a long shot of a long pathway with gates leading downstairs to a dark underground basement. It questions the sense of what could be happening and concludes the representation of mystery upon the audience. The sense of darkness, which is used in the far pathway, also adds to the mystery. The picture does not show any people suggesting that it is deserted and shows further representation of mystery.
